The vast majority of the websites that exist on the web have a footer section. This section is commonly used to place links to the about page, contact page, privacy policy page, and so on. On some websites, you will also find social media follow icons and email opt-in form on the footer section.

In WordPress, the layout/appearance of the footer is controlled by a template file belongs to a theme used by the associated website (each WordPress theme has a template file dedicated to controlling the footer layout).

Most WordPress themes offer the ability to customize the footer, but the offered customization options tend to limit. Also, you may not be allowed to add extra elements like email opt-in form, social media icons, site logo, and any element you want to add. Creating a custom footer allows you to add any element you need and want. In addition, you have the freedom to create the footer with your own design and layout.

Unless you have coding skills, here are the WordPress plugins that you can use to create a custom footer on your site.

1. Divi Builder

Divi Builder is a WordPress product developed by Elegant Themes. It’s a page builder that you can use to create beautiful pages on your WordPress site without dealing with CSS thanks to its visual editor. Divi Builder comes with a theme builder feature that allows you to create custom templates to replace the default templates of your theme, including the footer template.

You can create a custom footer template from scratch with your own design concept or from a premade custom template offered by Elegant Themes. Divi Builder offers about 38 elements (called modules) you can add to the custom footer template you are working on. To help you set the layout, Divi Builder also offers sections, rows, and columns.

Initially, Divi Builder can only be used on Divi theme and Extra theme — two WordPress themes developed by Elegant Themes. But you can now install Divi Builder on any WordPress theme. Divi Builder supports display conditions, meaning that you can assign a custom footer template to specific pages on your website. This also means that you can have different footers on different pages on a single site.

2. Elementor

Elementor is the most popular WordPress page builder plugins with over 5 million active users. You can also install Elementor on any WordPress theme so you don’t need to depend on a certain theme. Elementor also comes with a theme builder feature to allow you to create a custom footer template — and other templates like header and single post — to replace the default footer template of your theme. You are also provided a visual editor to make it easy for you to create the custom template. Same as Divi Builder, there are also sections and columns you can make use of to set the layout of the custom footer you are working on.

Elementor is the best option if you want to add more element types as it offers over 90 elements (called widgets) in total. You can even add custom fields if you want it. Elementor also supports display conditions to allow you to assign a custom footer template (and other templates) to certain pages on your website.

You also have two options to create a custom footer for your WordPress site with Elementor: from a premade template or from scratch. Unlike Divi Builder, Elementor offers premade footer templates you can access from the template library. You can simply import a premade template you like and replace the default content (texts, icons, links, images, and so on).

3. Brizy

Brizy is another WordPress plugin that you can use to create a custom footer on your website. It is technically also a page builder plugin to create pages just like Elementor and Divi Builder. Brizy also allows you to create a custom footer (and custom header) on your WordPress site where you can add any element you like or make the customization to your liking. The way Brizy works is a bit different from the first two plugins. It has no feature specifically called “theme builder”. Instead, Brizy offers blocks dedicated to creating a custom footer and custom header.

There are about 42 elements offered by Brizy. If you need to add custom fields, you can use Advanced Custom Fields or Pods. One thing you will love about Brizy is its very intuitive editor which offers live editing. Brizy can also be installed on any WordPress theme. A drawback of Brizy is that it doesn’t offer display conditions.

This will put you in a hassle if you are creating a complex website that consists of plenty of pages as you need to edit every page you want to add the custom footer to. To ease your job, Brizy allows you to save a footer block as a global block. By saving a footer block as a global block, you don’t need to create the footer anymore every time you want to add a footer to a page. You can simply add one from the global block.

While you can create a custom footer from scratch, Brizy also offers several premade footer blocks to streamline your workflow.

4. JetThemeCore

JetThemeCore is technically an Elementor add-on. In other words, to be able to use it, you need to install Elementor on your WordPress site. You can use JetThemeCore as an Elementor Pro alternative in case you still have a doubt to upgrade your Elementor Free to the pro version or you are the sort of person who doesn’t like the subscription-based payment model (Elementor only accept subscription-based model for the pro version).

Since JetThemeCore is an Elementor add-on, the creation process of the custom footer is also made via Elementor visual editor. You can add the native Elementor widgets or widgets offered by the Elementor add-ons you have.

JetThemeCore supports display conditions to allow you to create a custom footer for the entire site or assign a custom footer to specific pages. To streamline your workflow, JetThemeCore offers premade footer templates you can import.

5. Beaver Themer

Beaver Builder is another popular page builder plugin for WordPress. It is available in two versions: the full version (the paid one) and the lite version (the free one). The developer of Beaver Builder offers an add-on — the Beaver Themer add-on — that allows you to create custom templates for your theme.

One of the custom templates you can create is the footer template. Beaver Themer supports display conditions, allowing you to assign a custom footer template to certain pages on your WordPress. The creation process of the custom footer itself is made via Beaver Builder visual editor.

6. Visual Composer

Visual Composer is another page builder plugin that comes with a theme builder feature to allow you to create a custom footer or custom header for your WordPress site. It can be installed on any WordPress theme.

In Visual Composer, you can create a custom footer and assign it to the entire site so that you don’t need to work twice to add a custom footer on other pages on your website. Same other plugins above, Visual Composer also offers a visual editor to create the custom template.

7. tagDiv Composer

tagDiv Composer is a page builder plugin designed specifically to create an online magazine. It is a WordPress product developed by tagDiv. To be able to use tagDiv Composer you need to use the Newspaper theme and Newsmag theme. The two themes are developed by tagDiv and tagDiv Composer is built exclusively for those themes.

tagDiv Composer comes with a feature called Site Manager, a feature that you can use to create a custom footer and custom header on your Newspaper theme-powered WordPress theme. You can use the visual editor of tagDiv Composer to create the custom footer.
