Regardless of your expertise area, you can turn it into revenue with Gumroad. As I said above, although the platform tends to be more popular in the creator community, anyone can use Gumroad to sell their digital products.
You can even use Gumroad to sell your service.
For instance, you can offer a paid consulting service where you charge based on duration. For this particular business, you can integrate Gumroad with Google Calendar.

There are at least two main reasons why many creators are switching away from Gumroad. First, Gumroad charges high enough fee. As mentioned above, there will be a 10% cut for every product sold in Gumroad.
Second, Gumroad only supports Stripe as the payment gateway. Meaning that creators can only accept payment via cards (credit and debit card). There is no option to accept payment via PayPal.
PayPal, as you know, has been the primary payment option for online businesses for decades. Many creators, no matter the size, are still relying on PayPal to accept payments for their global audience. So, not being able to accept payment via PayPal is something they want to avoid.

Lemon Squeezy is a platform owned by Stripe. The acquisition took place in July 2024.

Ko-fi is pretty similar to Buy Me a Coffee. It is an online donation platform by nature. But the platform offers several methods to monetize your passion, other than accepting donations. One of which is selling a digital product.
If you are looking for a Gumroad alternative that supports payment via PayPal, then Ko-fi is one of the solutions.
In Ko-fi, you can accept payments via PayPal, cards, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. All you need to do is to connect your PayPal account and Stripe account.
Unlike Gumroad and other platforms above, payments made by your customers will directly go into your PayPal and Stripe account. Ko-fi only plays a role as the bridge. For every customer getting to you via the bridge, you will be charged 5%.

What if you don’t have a website?
You can still use Checkout Page to process the checkout just like other platforms above. Custom domain is an optional feature, not mandatory.
Checkout Page is fully integrated with Stripe. It comes with a tax feature (Stripe Tax) which you can use to calculate the tax before you set a price for your product.
You can use Checkout Page whether to sell a digital product, a physical product or a membership. Apart from cards (handled by Stripe), Checkout Page also supports payments via Google Pay and Apple Pay.
Unfortunately, Checkout Page doesn’t support PayPal.

You can use Payhip to sell digital products (e-books, templates, etc.), membership, coaching program to online courses. In Payhip, every payment made by your customers will go directly to your PayPal or Stripe account.
Same as Gumroad, you don’t need to pay monthly fee if you don’t make any sales. Instead, you will be charged 5% for every product sold. Smaller transaction fee is available, but you need to pay monthly fee.
