The selection of a theme is a crucial, tricky step when creating a new website with WordPress as there are a bunch of options out there. Be it on the WordPress themes directory or marketplaces like ThemeForest and TemplateMonster. Each theme offers different built-in features. If you are looking for a free WordPress theme that offers a sticky header, we have collected the best ones for you.
The header itself is one of the most visible parts of a website. In most cases, a website header contains a navigation menu to make it easy for your visitors to navigate to the main pages of your website. If you offer digital products, you can also use your website header to place a download or buy button. This practice is widely adopted by many WordPress developers to offer their products. In such a case, enabling the sticky effect would a great idea as your header remains visible as your visitors perform a scroll down.
Paid WordPress themes like Divi and Newspaper come with a built-in feature to enable the sticky effect to the header. Or, if you use Elementor, you can also enable the sticky option when creating a custom header using its Theme Builder feature. If you are looking for a free solution to have a sticky header on your WordPress site then you can use one of the following themes.
💡 If you are looking for a WordPress theme that has a built-in page builder and form builder, I recommend Divi. This theme also comes with a sticky header feature.

1. Sydney
Sydney is one of the WordPress themes that come with a built-in feature to enable the sticky effect. The theme itself is actually released as a freemium, but the option to enable the sticky effect is available on both the free and pro version. The header customization options offered by the free version of Sydney are rich enough. You can add a slider to the header (be it an image slider or video slider).
You can also set the position of the menu, be it on the center or the right (inline). You can also change the background color of the header as well as the text color, menu hover, dropdown menu, and so on. You can also the size of the text menu. Sydney itself is one of the best free themes for Elementor. It’s recommended by Elementor.
2. Flexia
Flexia is one of the products of WPDeveloper, the developer of the most popular Elementor add-ons — Essential Addons. Same as Sydney above, Flexia is also released as a freemium theme. The feature to enable the sticky effect to the header is available in both versions. Flexia is probably the best option if you use a free version of a page builder plugin and need a theme that offers many options to customize the header.
The header part of the Flexia theme is divided into two sections: the top bar and the navigation bar where your menu lies on. You can only apply the sticky effect to the navigation bar. If you want your header to have only one section, you can disable the top bar. There are two header layouts you can choose from: boxed and full width. You can add the following elements to your header:
- Menu
- Search icon
- Login button
- Social media icons
- Phone number
- Email address
- Google Maps link
- Chart menu
Of course, you can also set the color of the navigation bar and other components of the header such as menu hover, dropdown menu, and so on.
3. Elixar
The options offered by Elixar to customize your site header are pretty similar to Flexia. First, you can add an image to your header. Second, you can also enable the sticky effect to header. The header part of Elixar is also divided into two sections: the top bar section and the navigation section.
The section you can apply the sticky effect to is the navigation bar. You can select the color according to the color scheme of your theme. In addition to image, you can also add the following elements to your site header:
- Menu (of course)
- Phone number
- Shopping cart
- Email address
- Physical address
- Search icon
- Social media icons
4. Photoway
Photoway is a WordPress theme designed specifically to create a photography website. You can add a large image to the header part of the website. If you want to enable the sticky option, the theme also offers an option to do so.
Unfortunately, there is no option to change the background color of the header or change the font size. Photoway allows you to add two menus to your header: the main menu on the main section of the header and the secondary menu — which will be displayed in an off-canvas style without needing to install an additional menu plugin.
5. Blogberg
Blogberg is developed by the same developer as the developer of Photoway above. Blogberg is especially a great option if you are looking for a free theme that displays your blog posts in a slider on the homepage.
The options offered by Blogberg to customize the header are pretty similar to Photoway, hardly any difference at all. You can also add two menus to the header, one on the main section and another on the hamburger section. You can also apply the sticky effect to the header.
6. Awada
Awada is another free WordPress theme that offers an option to enable the sticky effect to the header. The header of the Awada is also divided into two sections like Elixar: the top bar (secondary header) and the navigation menu section (the main header).
The default color of the Awada header is black and blue, you can change them according to the color scheme of your theme. Awada also offers an option to change the font family of the menu text. You can add the following elements to your header:
- Menu
- Phone number
- Email address
- Social media icon
There is no option to add a search icon to the header.
7. BirdFIELD
The default setting of the BirdFIELD theme displays your site header in a fixed style. BirdFIELD offers no option to disable this option (version 1.12). The customization options offered by this theme are limited enough. Other than its inability to change the header style mode, there is no option to change the header color alone.
When you change the color of the header, the change will also be applied to the footer. In other words, the header and the footer of your site will always have the same background color. Anyways, BirdFIELD is a good enough option especially if you are looking for a free theme that allows you to add an image slider to the header.
8. Figure/Ground
If you are a fan of the dark mode then the Figure/Ground theme might is a suited theme for you. Same as BirdFIELD above, the default setting of Figure/Ground also displays the header in a fixed style and you have no option to change it.
Also, the theme offers no option to change the color of the header alone. If you change the color of the header, the change will also be applied to other areas including the theme background and footer. Figure/Ground displays your menu in a hamburger style.
